What They Said: A Round-Up of Nonprofit Resources and Readings - April 30
We’re back with the highlights from the last two weeks’ of print, podcasts, and (just one) webinar. As a reminder, these are resources we’re seeing and reading and find helpful. If you have sources or ideas to share please comment or send to us! There is no shortage of content, these days, but our goal is to distill the list of ‘must reads’ and ‘most useful’ in hopes of saving you time (and open computer tabs).
Fundraising in Uncertain Times: Success Stories: We are, after all, named “Brightspot” and we like to start with what’s working and going well! Do you have a fundraising event on the horizon (*99% of us nod our heads*)? We came across these two resources: the first, from 20 Degrees, can help you decide if you should keep on, postpone, or cancel your upcoming event; and the second, from Prosper Strategies, which has very practical tips and strategies for how to transition to an online event.
The NH Center for Nonprofits made a recent webinar by Susan Meier available. We know, we know, a webinar…but this is excellent and is focused on how board members can be a value-add during this time. A reminder that even the best ED and staff can and should call upon their boards right now.
Looking for a break from the details and planning and want to do some big-picture thinking (or listening) about what COVID-19 will mean for the sector? We recently came across the Chronicle’s podcast, The Business of Giving, and there are some great interviews and episodes out there. We started with this one with Anne Marie Burgoyne’s thoughts on how the coronavirus will affect social change efforts.
We also wanted to share some resources that we hope will support you on a human level.
Briana wrote a great blog this month, dedicated to the nonprofit mamas who are leading their organizations, navigating the stimulus options, keeping programs/staff/operations going, all while also gracefully stepping into their new promotion of homeschool teacher extraordinaire! Congrats on your promotions, everyone.
If you are a parent, doing the dance Brie described in her blog, you may also be interested in The Ultimate Parents’ Guide to Education and Activity Resources, from The Washington Post, with resources, activities, and ideas for your family. Now seven weeks in, some of us really appreciated the infusion of new ideas!
The human, emotional toll of this ‘new normal’ is real and is taking its toll. Check out these tips and strategies to manage your coronavirus anxiety so you are able to take care of you before you try to take care of anyone else.
Stay well!
